Why Do Precision Products Still Suffer ESD Damage Even With Anti-Static Shielding Bags?
September Mon , 2026
33

Even with anti-static shielding bags, precision products may still experience ESD damage and interference losses. The core issue is not whether protection is applied. Standard compliant bags often cannot withstand the harsh operating conditions in precision manufacturing.

Anti-static and electromagnetic interference protection cannot rely on experience or assumptions. All protective performance is reflected in measured test data. Today, we compare common industry standards with Star’s technical performance across six key industry metrics, to help you understand the real differences in high-quality protection.

01 Surface Resistance

Surface resistance is a fundamental parameter for evaluating the anti-static performance of bags. A resistance value within a reasonable range enables smooth static charge dissipation.

Common industry standard: 10⁸~10¹¹Ω. This is the widely accepted qualified anti-static range, meeting basic static protection requirements for general industrial applications.

Star technical performance: 10⁶~10¹⁰Ω, offering a wider controllable range and stronger adaptability. By optimizing material formulation and production processes, Star Group maintains consistent resistance parameters without fluctuations. This avoids parameter drift and partial protection failure seen in ordinary products, delivering stable long-term basic anti-static performance.

02 Triboelectric Voltage

Friction between bags and products, or between stacked bags during packaging, handling and stacking, is a major source of static electricity. A lower triboelectric voltage indicates better resistance to static generation and safer protection for enclosed products.

Common industry standard: Triboelectric voltage <100V, capable of addressing minor static risks from friction in regular production.

Star technical performance: Triboelectric voltage can reach <10V, representing a ten-fold performance improvement over the industry standard. It reduces risks of high static charges generated by friction during packaging handling, stacking and sorting. It is especially suitable for static-sensitive components such as sensors, microchips and high-frequency precision parts, lowering static generation at the source.

03 Residual Shielding Voltage

Residual static voltage on the surface of used anti-static shielding bags is a key indicator of protection refinement. Higher residual voltage leads to greater discharge risks during subsequent contact and unpacking.

Common industry standard: Static voltage <30V, which meets static control requirements for ordinary industrial environments. However, residual static still carries potential risks in high-cleanliness settings such as cleanrooms and semiconductor packaging.

Star technical performance: Static voltage strictly controlled below 5V, substantially exceeding the common industry standard. Low residual surface static effectively reduces dust adhesion and maintains cleanliness during production and storage. It also prevents gradual damage to sensitive components from static charges, raising the overall protection level.

04 Shielding Energy

Shielding energy determines a packaging bag’s ability to resist sudden external static charges and high-voltage pulse interference. As a core protection metric for anti-static bags, it directly affects whether enclosed products can withstand external static shocks.

Common industry standard: Shielding energy <20nJ, a recognized threshold for reliable protection against regular transient static shocks.

Star technical performance: Shielding energy <20nJ, fully meeting the industry benchmark. With mature shielding layer design, the bags deliver stable and balanced shielding performance with no weak shielding zones. They provide consistent and reliable defence against various transient static energy impacts to secure product protection.

05 EMI Attenuation

Industrial operations and electronic equipment generate diverse electromagnetic interference, which may cause data deviation in precision instruments, abnormal equipment operation and disrupted signal transmission. A higher EMI attenuation value means stronger electromagnetic interference resistance and better protection.

Common industry standard: EMI attenuation ≥10dB, which attenuates most regular electromagnetic interference and satisfies basic protection for equipment operation.

Star technical performance: EMI attenuation ≥20dB, doubling the performance level. For complex electromagnetic environments and sites with densely deployed equipment, it efficiently attenuates high-frequency and low-frequency electromagnetic noise. It supports stable operation of precision instruments, smart devices and electronic components, fitting strict requirements of advanced manufacturing.

06 Static Decay

Static decay time refers to the speed at which static charges dissipate from the bag surface. Faster dissipation reduces the chance of static accumulation and improves protection safety.

Common industry standard: Static decay time <2s, satisfying static dissipation needs for typical applications.

Star technical performance: Static decay time <0.2s, with a dissipation speed ten times faster than the industry standard. It enables rapid static discharge and prevents static build-up during continuous operations, matching high-speed assembly lines and high-frequency production workflows.

Anti-static protection is never simply about meeting minimum standards. In precision manufacturing, consistent parameters, efficient charge dissipation and strong anti-interference performance are key to lowering product defect rates and controlling production costs.

Star Group has focused on the anti-static packaging industry for 27 years. Supported by six production bases, global layout and rigorous quality control, we take measured test data as the core reference and industry standards as the baseline. We continuously optimize materials and manufacturing processes, delivering advanced, stable and reliable protection to safeguard customers’ product quality.
